Toto is the company that makes the elegant Japanese toilets, also known as Washlets. These toilets come with heated seats, a bidet and deodorizer among other amenities.
Before the formation of Toto, its members did sessions for Steely Dan, [3] Seals and Crofts,[4Seals and Crofts,[4] Boz Scaggs, and Sonny and Cher. [5] Guitarist Steve Lukather was the band's lead singer.
About Toto
Toto was founded in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also acclaimed studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The name comes from the Latin word that means "all encompassing," the group was determined to explore every style of music.
The third album from Toto, Turn Back, was an unfulfilling success in 1981. However, they bounced back with their fourth album, Isolation, which contained two hit songs with the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour made them a household name throughout the globe.
After a gap of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. The album is an departure from the ballads on previous albums, and also features some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.

During the recording of the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and are financially in trouble. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and goes on to record their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes an original cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band's cover of their hit Africa during a recent tour. Toto's touring group is comprised by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

Toto composed their first and sole film score in 1984 for the film Dune. It was a massive project and the entire band was required to participate. The album that followed, Kingdom of Desire, was a record that also had a great success. After a world tour, Bobby Kimball quit the group. He was replaced by Fergie Frederiksen of Le Roux. The band continued with their fifth studio album, Isolation. The album featured a few songs that were hits, like "Stranger in Town".
After Isolation, Toto took a break from the spotlight and stepped back from the stage. This gave every member of the band the chance to pursue their own solo projects. In 1996, the band reformed to tour and record an album. It was the first time in over a decade that all the original band members were on stage.
The following year, Toto toured together with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. This was the last time that all of Toto's original members appeared together on stage at the same time. Following this, the group was again disbanded. Toto reunited for an event benefiting the ALS Foundation in 2010. to raise money for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time that all original Toto members had been performing together for more than 31 years. The original Toto members were joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.

Toto is one of the most well-known groups in rock music. They have had hits like "Rosanna," Hold The Line," and "Africa," which has been certified as platinum 8X. With a range of influences, from progressive rock to world rhythms to soul and jazz, the group continues to please their fans with their energetic arena rock.
Despite their fame the group had to face a number of setbacks in their later years. In 2002, drummer Greg Phillinganes left the group, and keyboardist David Paich took a leave of absence due to health reasons. Shem von Schröeck took over, but the band wasn't the same without Paich or Phillinganes. In 2008, Toto decided to take off from touring following changing the lineup of their band and a disappointing string of releases. The group returned to performing in 2012 following the release of their album, 40 Trips Around the Sun.
The album was a return to form for the group and the tour was accompanied it with sold-out shows across North America and Europe. The reunion of Toto gained momentum with the return of bassist Shem Von Schroeck and guitarist Steve Lukather.
